Census Centurion
Macrotect, LLC
Every day, business owners unwittingly expose their employee information by transmitting data through unsecure methods. Macrotect counters the threat of data theft with Census Centurion.
The Challenge
In the retirement plan industry the process of gathering customer census information was inefficient and insecure.
Customers often enter the census data into an Excel spreadsheet and then email the file to their third party plan administrators. This method is woefully insecure and results in inaccurate data as it was prone to entry errors. These files contained sensitive employee information and needed to be secured.
Macrotect needed a secure, efficient means of collecting and updating census data while eliminating data entry errors in order to fill a need in the plan administration industry.
The Solution
The Bit-Wizards solution created the software application now known as Census Centurion. This web-based application is built on the ASP.NET framework and is secured through Secure Socket Layers encryption.
With Census Centurion, clients are provided with their own unique accounts that they can access from any location through an Internet connected computer and Internet Explorer.
The validation functions reduce entry errors by checking census data against existing records with a set of standardized naming and numbering conventions. Once the client has submitted their data, Census Centurion notifies Macrotect creating an efficient workflow of information.
An export feature allows plan administrators to output their finished census to an Excel file allowing for import into most accounting software packages.
The Result
Clients of Macrotect now have a secure, efficient, and reliable means to record and track census data. Census Centurion’s data entry forms ensured that no incomplete entries were submitted since required fields must be completed. Data errors were reduced since each field is checked for a correct data type. The security risk of emailing census data back and forth was eliminated. Sensitive data is now entered over SSL encrypted forms and stored in a secure database.
